Waiting

It was a cloudy April evening, the sun barely visible behind the clouds. A girl and a boy were huddled together at the edge of the town, where two trees entwined together danced in the serene wind.

The girl tearfully looked up at her best friend. "You promise to visit one day, right?"

The boy next to her nodded solemnly. "I will. Don't worry 'bout it." He gave her a tiny smile, waved goodbye, and walked off, only carrying his most prized possessions.

Everyday, the girl waited for him at the place where she last saw him. Everyday she eagerly bought him coffee, his favorite drink. Everyday, she watched the coffee grow stale and cold. Even so, she still waited, no matter what.

Eventually, days become weeks, weeks became months, and months became years. But still, the girl never lost faith.

And there, at the edge of town, where two trees entwined together danced in the serene wind, the girl waited.
